Authentic hand cut Mexican Day of the Dead Papel Picado
 
These are wonderful works of art whether are designed for Day of the Dead or Halloween celebrations.  Also perfect for couples looking for decorations for alternative wedding themes.  I have customers that have mounted and framed individual banners to create a stunning art display in their homes.

The Papel Picado sold by Between The Trees is from a FAIRTRADE certified organisation who work directly with Mexican artisans to produce these wonderful hand cut banners.

About Papel Picado

 

 

Papel picado is a traditional folk art used across Mexican villages to decorate altars, tables, ceilings and plazas during festivals and especially the Day of the Dead holiday.  With a paper pattern to guide them in their work,  Mexican papel picado artisans use a hammer and very sharp chisel to cut through up to fifty sheets of tissue paper at a time to produce these wonderful intricate images.    These are then glued onto string to produce these fabulous colourful banners.   Another superb example of how Mexican traditional folk artisans are attracting new contemporary audiences to their work across the globe.
