An excellent, old, painting on glass of the Cunard liner, RMS Mauretania. Of diamond shape and measuring 9.5" x 9.5". Almost certainly dating to the 1920's and with the old backing card, which has an address and a 6 penny stamp of George V. In perfect condition. The Mauretania was the sister ship of the Lusitania and was launched in 1906, going into service the following year. She won the "Blue Riband" for the fastest transatlantic crossing time a few months later and retained the record for 22 years. She was, at the time, the largest, fastest and most luxurious liner in the world. After serving as a hospital ship and troopship during the First World War, she resumed her civilian role and was finally scrapped in 1935. Airmail or surface mail shipping available. |
