PADDLE STEAMER 1895 Cambria Campbell - PADST014

 


The Paddle Steamer 'Cambria'  1895-1946

Owned by P & A Campbell Ltd

Launched by H McIntyre at Aloa in April 1895, Cambria worked the Cardiff to Ilfracombe service and along the South Coast of England. In World War I she was requisitioned as HMS Cambridge, serving at Grimsby and on the Tyne. In World War II, as HMS Plinlimmon, she was converted to a minesweeper and based at Granton on the Firth of Forth. Canbria was involved in the evacutaion of troops from Dunkirk in 1940. She then served on the Tyne and later went to Harwich as an accommodation ship. Found to be beyond economic repair after her war service Cambria was subsequently scrapped.
