This is a floating water plant that has leaves like very small lilies; 2-3" diameter. They are not lilies.

Most of the year the leaves sit on the surface but in the summer, some of them grow a few inches above the surface which gives quite a pretty effect. The leaves do not die back much in the winter giving all year round water coverage.

They have an extensive root system that sits under the leaves ideal as a spawning medium for adult fish, and as a haven for little fish and food. The roots system can attach to the bottom or sides of the pond but will be just as happy floating around.

It grows fast in the warmer weather and can cover quite an area of pond, cutting back maybe required depending how much coverage you want.
