Lt. Teddy Evans was 2nd officer of "Morning" Antarctic Relief ship to the "Discovery" Expedition, berthed in Hobart, Tasmania, Nov. 4 - Dec. 3rd, 1903.
He drew the sketch during a tennis party, the young ladies making sure he could not see by throwing a thick cloth over his head, leaving only lower arms free. Signed and dated 1903. A copy of a private photo taken at a picnic with one of the young ladies (aunt of seller) will be given to the buyer, plus three photos of preparations for Morning's departure showing Evans and other officers..
Teddy Evans was specially promoted to Commander for Antarctic services in 1912, succeeding to command of expedition on death of Scott.
In 1917 Evans commanded HMS Broke when, together with HMS Swift, he engaged and defeated six German Destroyers. Twice mentioned in despatches and specially promoted to Captain for services in action.
Rear Admiral commanding Royal Australian Navy 1929-31. C-in-C African Station 1933-35. London Regional Commander for Civil Defence 1939-45. Numerous foreign orders, also awards for saving life at sea.
