Who Was Francois Szalay - Colos?First of All, Colos NEVER sold any of his artwork. One of the most creative and innovative designers, Szalay was born in 1933 in Budapest, Hungary. After studying graphic art and engraving techniques, Szalay was arrested in 1951 by the political Police and sent to a coal mine deep in the Goulag, being freed after 5 years, in 1956, by the Hungarian Revolution. ****** In 1957 he turned up by chance in Paris and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and the Ecole du Louvre. He started publishing, illustrated several books and magazines winning prizes in Belgium, England and Germany. NOTE: The following 3 pictures are for informational purpose ONLY. ![]() After a first trip in 1966 to US, in 1970 settled permanently in Manhattan to work as a free-lance artist. His drawings and concepts won numerous prizes. He worked for Time, Life, The New York Times, Playboy, Exxon, Mobil, Xerox, McGraw Hill, Harper's, Hustler and many more. ""His work consists of drawings, photograph, and collages, or a combination of the three. These are simultaneously lively, comical, satirical, and of the utmost seriousness.
