This
item is a vintage GPO telephone.
The dial has letters as well as numbers, so was more likely to have been
an office phone than a domestic phone.
The
phone is pillar-box red, and is in good condition – there are signs of wear,
but no large scratches or cracks. The
lead from the back of the phone is missing. I believe the phone is in working order, though it has not
been tested and is sold as untested.
There
is an oblong mark on the underneath which says ‘GPO batch sampled 8293’, and
another mark in which the characters are in a straight line which says ‘706L
AEG66/2A’. My
research tells me that this means that this phone is a model 706L from the
1960s. The red colour and the letters as well as numbers makes me imagine it was somewhere important. Who knows, maybe Downing Street also had a 'red hotline' to the KGB, and maybe this phone, or one very like it, was the phone they used... The
phone weighs almost 2kg, and will be shipped within three working days of
receiving payment. Standard shipping within the UK is Royal Mail Standard Parcel post. Tracking can be added for £0.75. The price
quoted for international shipping is for Royal Mail Airmail Small Packets to
the US only to give an idea, international bidders please email to discuss
shipping. |
