Original Lurcher Hound Hunting Dog Pastel Portrait

Description: An exquisite animal portrait pastel on artist's paper, signed "Helen Fowler" and dating circa 1930s - 1940s. Framed - approx 20 X 22 inches (50.8 X 55.88cm). This is an exquisite English School pastel dating from the 1930 - 40 period. The animal portrait depicts an absolutely charming study of a lurcher hunting dog. Set on grey ground artist's paper, having a dark cast shadow behind, the lurcher is truly beautifully depicted, his black, grey, white, brown course coat catching the light, as the dog eagerly pricks his ears at his master's voice, his neat little brown ears falling onto his forehead, his dark brown eyes full of life and enthusiasm. A wonderful pastel drawing of this truly charismatic character. The work is signed "Helen Fowler" lower right.

Date: The pastel probably dates to around 1930s - 1940s.

Framing: Contemporary plain moulded Gesso work. Finish: Ebonised. The pastel is mounted on board.

Condition: The pastel has one or two minor marks, consistent with age, however is generally in excellent original condition. The frame has a few minor chips and dings, consistent with age and this type of delicate material.
