This is a nice clean example of this classic camera.
It has been given a complete service including an internal clean and the light seals renewed, and it sold with a guarantee.
It is completely 'passive' (ie no batteries) auto-exposure camera.
Focusing is good-old four position click. Portrait, head and shoulders, full length, and landscape. (This works surprisingly well!)
The lens is an Olympus Zukio f/2.8 40mm, and has a reputation for 'sharpness'. There are a number of internet sites on these cameras where you can verify this for yourself.
I remember these cameras being 'the' compact to have when they first came out. The adverts' featured famous UK photographer David Bailey. So good enough for him right!
(For those with more of their life ahead than behind, the ad's usually had some amateur photographer with an enormously complicated SLR rig, telling DB, how he wouldn't 'get anything decent with that tiny thing mate', completely unaware that he was addressing one of the countries best known professionals. The look of surprised disdain on Mr B's face, as he turned round got the message across.)
Actually no one really knows whether DB really used one of these regularly, but I wouldn't be surprised if he kept one or two around. They are light and easy to use, and just perfect for snatching out of your pocket for that unexpected opportunity you would otherwise miss.
And no batteries to run out!
Specifics.
As usual the camera has been checked for correct operation, been cleaned, serviced and the light seals renewed with better than original material. (The foam by the door hinge in particular gets quite nasty!)
This camera comes with a wrist strap.
As these cameras were all originally date coded, it is easy to confirm the date of manufacture, which tallies with the serial number, and a number of telltale features. (some internal.)
Date of manufacture: May1979
