WHY AM I SELLING THIS???? It's almost 5 years old and I've had it with me every day, and yet, not a scratch, not a dint, it's still as good as new. I CANNOT FAULT IT.
When digital cameras came in, I watched them develop with interest. Hoorah I thought as we said goodbye to changing lenses, bouncing mirrors and shutters, and cleaning dust out of pentaprisms. So as they grew bigger and more sophisticated, offering greater picture power I got excited at the prospect of having a big zoom, auto focus lens of great resolution integrated into an SLR sized body. I couldn't believe it when the major players started going backwards, using new the technology to make digital SLR's, with flipping mirrors and pentaprisms, and still cause the owner the real inconvenience of carrying and having to change from lens to lens on each shoot.
I've always admired Olympus for daring to go their own way, so at a time when every enthusiast or pro was going DSLR, Olympus launched the C 8080. I immediately knew it was the camera for me. Afterall it was everything I thought a camera of the future should be, relying on one very capable, zoom, autofocus lens of real optical quality, and camera functions that made sense, rather than being gimmicky. The reviews when it was launched were really excellent. See www.dpreview.com/reviews/OlympusC8080WZ/ It's only now I look back to see what reviewers have written more recently. In the five years I've had the camera it seems to have become something of a classic, a camera with a real reputation. And since Olympus stopped making it, it seems that they've become quite sought after, not least here on Ebay.
Should you buy this camera, it will come in it's original box, with EVERYTHING that was orginally supplied with it: Olympus battery, charger, USB lead, CAMEDIA software, all original Instructions, strap, infra-red remote, 32MB xD card, lens hood (I'll also enclose the original invoice from Warehouse Express dated 26/11/2004 for £ 456.95). Also included will be two additional xD cards: 512MB and 128MB. I also include a Samsonite Trekking camera bag which is a perfect fit, and great protection for this camera (yes, I made sure I looked after it).
WHY AM I SELLING THIS CAMERA??? I suppose I must admit, I know the Olympus C-8080 inside out; I like new technology and I want a new toy. I've always liked Olympus for daring to be different and I've never previously been swayed by the camera snobs who insist on only buying Nikon or Canon, in the same way they only buy Mercedes or Audi, and shop at Sainsbury's or Waitrose. Well I've bought a Nikon D5000, and I'm really beginning to wonder if I've done the right thing: flipping mirror, dust, hassle of carrying and changing lenses (but it's got knobs and switches and things I'm still having to learn). I'll bet a few years down 'intelligent design' will have realised a compact 'prosumer' point and shoot camera like the Olympus C-8080 makes far more sense for the intelligent buyer.
As far as I am aware this camera is 100% operational, with no known faults (nor has it ever had any). If you have 100% positive, and more than 10, I will offer a money-back guarantee for 21 days (less postage), provided of course, you have not abused it!
