The classic olive tree is a well known, both architectural and food crop tree.
It can be VERY long lived, with specimens
in greece estimated to be over 1500 years old!

Evergreen, with silvery green short lanceolate leaves, it can grow to around
15 meters in height, but can be commonly be found to only grow to half that size.

Cultivated for since ancient times, it is used as a source
for oives, olive oil and a good quality wood.

To produce olives, it needs a warm summer, and
(as I discovered while in Cyprus last year!) the fruits need to be fermented
before they can be eaten, they are extremely bitter otherwise!

Hardy to around -10°C
