Old Skool Rave Sessions celebrates a time in underground dance music’s history when people of all races, creeds and colours gathered together for one purpose… to dance their arses off till dawn. The clubs didn’t have a dress code, there was no such thing as a VIP room and the DJs were worshiped like heroes. Were talking about the era of ‘Rave’.
In London, clubs like ‘Orange’ at Camden Palace or ‘The Crazy Club’ at The Astoria were filled to capacity every week with huge crowds of devotees, all hungry for the latest Hardcore/Rave releases. It was a time when the pirate radio stations flooded the airwaves with breakbeats, booming sub-bass, bleeps and whistles… the legal FM stations were still playing catch up.
These are the records and this was the era that transformed a nation. Once experienced, the Rave scene had the power to convert ‘beered up’ thugs across the country, traditionally looking for a fight on a Saturday night into ‘loved up’ sweaty ravers, happy to just dance the night away with a warehouse full of complete strangers.
No 2CD album could possibly contain all the great tunes from that wonderful, enlightening and groundbreaking period. Indeed, cutting the playlist down to fit onto 2 CDs was one of the toughest jobs we’ve had to do, but here at Sessions we’ve done it and we’re very proud to present a firing selection of genre defining Rave anthems from the scene’s golden era, 1990 to ’93… enjoy.
