LEFFE(d)

ONE OF THE HARDEST TO FIND GLASSES

UNIQUE STYLE

Despite being brewed by INBEV

& available in cans

LEFFE is a GENUINE ABBEY Beer

My day job last summer was painting Garage Doors on Council Houses on the outskirts of BRUGGE;

&

when I opened the doors to paint the mechanism in most cases there was a Yellow Crate of Leffe

Not exactly Scientific but it goes to show that LEFFE is the Belgians favourite Belgian Beer

BUT

What surprised ME was when I began to research a little for this listing was what a strange route of obscure Brewers it took LEFFE to become the the Belgians Favourite Belgian Beer

&

it could just as easily have been Affligem, Grimbergen, Maredsous, Postel or Corsendonck

It's popularity is down to strong marketing by Interbrew/InBev

THO

There has been an evolution in the Logo

What I take to be the oldest feature only the Seal & are in French

The main evolution has been in the No of Attic Windows that are visible

From

Seal Only in French

1 Window No Seal in French

to Seal + 1(White Scroll) Bi Lingual

to Seal + 1(Orange Logo) French only-Black Letters

to Seal + 1(Orange Logo) Bi Lingual-White Letters

to Seal + 1(Blue Logo) Bi Lingual

to 2(in use in 1990) Bi Lingual

to 3(Current) Bi Lingual

The best Chronology I can put together

Up to 1980: Marine Malterie

Until 1990:  Mont St Guibert

1990 on: Interbrew

tho Artois, De Kluis & Bocq all also produced Leffe

refers to my catalogueing system & means that this was the 13th  type of Stella Glass that I had.  The Catalogue now stands at (cq). (110)(more with Artois)

I list old, rare, unusual Stella items every week

If you are looking for something specific please eMail

I have recently been surprised to discover that many of the glasses I have are close to 50 years old, some even older

There was an article in the paper recently on 20 Reasons to be proud to be Belgian.

The Beer & Trappists were one

& the fact that there are over 3000 -yes THREE thousand-sorts of beer in a country the size of Wales with the population of London

Belgium's Interbrew -renamed INBEV - is now the biggest brewer in the world but describes itself as

The World's LOCAL brewer

Tho they don't brew every beer in Belgium

& every beer has it's own glass

Which makes many glasses Rare but locally common

An Ideal Glass for use or for the Collection

I have a collection in excess of 2500 glasses which I will be listing, if there is any thing that you are looking for please ask.  I am also actively buying, so even if i dont have it now I might find it next week

Be sure to add me to your favorites list!

OTHER BORING STUFF

You are being offered second hand Beer Glasses:  They are not NEW & there is sometimes some sign of wear & tear.  We do not wash all the glasses but would recomend that they are before use.  There is no such thing as a perfect glass & some may have bubbles or the odd 'ping' from the manufacturing process.

 Whilst the pictures are of actual glasses from our stock we are building a library of stock photos so you may not get the glass in the photo.  There are many minor variations in what seems to be the same glass -if you want a matched pair please ask at the time of the auction;

Dimensions, Weight & Volumes are quoted mainly to help calculate costs of despatch & are not precise nor do they form part of the contract; if a volume has the letter M it means that the glass is marked; other glasses are filled more or less to the brim & measured however most of the larger Tulips & Trappists would normally have up to 50% head

EXTREMELY BORING BIT THAT YOU DON'T NEED TO READ
