Old MATTE TEA CUP & SPOON from VENEZUELA

This is an old MATTE TEA- DRINKING CUP & SPOON from VENEZUELA. This item is used for drinking the traditional 'Matte' tea much favored in South America. The tea is prepared from local herbs etc, and the final drink is both thick and full of leaves, fronds etc. Using the silver plated spoon in the same way as a drinking straw, to suck up the liquid, the spoon filters out all of the vegetable matter, just leaving the liquid drink. This pot is made from local South American hardwood ( possibly Pau santo - Saint Wood ) with silver plated mounts and measures 5" tall by 2 5/8" in diameter. The nickel silver spoon is 7 3/8" long.
