Known to many of us through its mention in one of the ultimate Weird Tales of H. P. Lovecraft, The Dunwich Horror, this is none other than the Legendary text De Occultis Literarum Notis (mentioned by Lovecraft as the edition titled De Furtivis Literarum Notis) which was one of the Rare and Forbidden Tomes consulted by Dr. Armitage in his attempt to decypher the Cryptic journal of Wilber Whateley and to stop the "Dunwich Horror" of the title.

Unlike many other Forbidden Volumes of Arcane Knowledge mentioned by Lovecraft, such as the Necronomicon, The Book of Eibon and the De Vermis Mysteriis, the De Occultis (or Furtivis) Literarum Notis was a real book authored in 1563 by Giovanni Battista della Porta (the author of another Arcane volume titled Natural Magick). This fascinating and thorough text is one of the most in-depth studies of Cryptography ever written and represented the sum of cryptologic knowledge of its time. Filled with many illustrations and scripts which will be familiar to students of the Occult and which may have been the basis for many of the symbols used in the Occult Grimoire texts of the time, this volume is one of the rarest and most interesting books which I have had the pleasure of owning.

This is the EXTREMELY Rare, almost impossible-to-obtain Eurocrypt '96 Facsimile of the 1593 edition. This was a VERY limited facsimile edition with a detailed introduction written in both English and Spanish for Eurocypt '96. To the best of my knowledge, this is the ONLY modern edition of this text in existence and is even more rare and hard to find than the original editions of the 1500s/ 1600s. Approximately 300 pages, illustrated with charts, drawings and diagrams.

Book is in Very Nice condition, clean and solid inside & out, only light soiling to page edges. Attractively printed on cream-colored paper. Spine is flat, solid and uncreased. A tremendous addition to any Esoteric, Lovecraftian, or rare-book collection. A truly rare and valuable collector's item.
