One Lucky Bastard: Surviving two Combat Tours as a World War II bombardier

A very good, like new, used condition hardcover book, with no d/w as issued (pictoral boards), of 365 pages with some b&w pictures and maps. Pages clean and crisp, appears unread. The selected title, 'One Lucky Bastard,' is not intended to be derogatory or offensive in any way. It is, in fact, the name of an exclusive club, an honorary society made up of former members of the Eighth Air Force who were fortunate enough to survive a combat tour, or more, over Fortress Europe during WW2.
Fewer than 220 members of the original 720 combat crew members in the 447th Bombardment Group completed enough missions to qualify for the club's membership. Because of the supreme sacrifices made by many of the other 500 individuals, the chosen title, 'One Lucky Bastard,' seems an appropriate title for the book.
The author is proud of his membership in the club and regards the certificate, a copy of which appears mid-book, as somewhat of a second birth certificate. Some have likened it to an 'honorable discharge from Hell on Earth.' Perhaps the limited membership of the club epitomizes the futility of the war itself.
