Olympus EVOLT E-420 with 14-42mm Lens
The E-420 is the world's smallest digital SLR with all the features you
need to take great pictures anywhere you go, every day. The innovative and
unique Olympus Autofocus Live View function allows you to frame and focus
your photos using the large 2.7-inch LCD as a viewfinder. The E-420's
Scene Select Modes make you an instant expert -- or switch to manual mode
to expand your creative control. This feature-rich digital SLR also sports
Shadow Adjustment Technology and Face Detection, both viewable in real
time on the Live View LCD.
 |
On-Screen Autofocus with Live View works as seamlessly as a
point-and-shoot to display subjects in focus on the LCD the instant
the shutter is pressed half way. |
 |
Face Detection Technology targets and locks on up to eight faces
to ensure accurate focus for crystal clear, amazing portraits. |
 |
Shadow Adjustment Technology captures detail in the bright areas
of a frame and opens up detail in the shadows that other cameras would
render too dark or underexposed. |
- The E-420 measures 5.1 inches by 3.6
inches by 2.1 inches, and it's a featherweight 13.4 ounces -- making
it the world’s smallest digital SLR.
- The Olympus dust reduction system is
an industry first and a proven technology. Every time you turn on the
E-420, the Supersonic Wave Filter™ — located between the shutter and
the image sensor – silently vibrates an amazing 35,000 times per
second. Dust is flung away and collected so it can't come back.
- The Digital Image Stabilization Scene
Select Mode allows high ISO sensitivity and faster shutter speeds so
you can freeze the action to capture sharp, blur-free images even if
you or your subject is moving.
- The E-420's 2.7" HyperCrystal II LCD
delivers twice the contrast and better viewing in extreme lighting
conditions, a broader range of color detail, and a wider angle of view
on the LCD.
- The powerful 10-megapixel Live-MOS
sensor means you'll see more detail in your pictures than ever before.
And you'll have the flexibility to crop and still produce large,
detailed prints.
- The E- 420's TruePic III™ processor
gives you better color and quality through true-to-life skin tones,
brilliant blue skies, precise color transitions, more detail and less
image noise.
- Expand your creative reach with
wireless flash compatibility. The E-420 is compatible with the Olympus
FL-50R and FL-36R wireless electronic flashes that are designed
exclusively for digital photography.
- With 18 easy to use Scene Select Modes
you can simply select the right mode for your shot; the E-420 takes
care of the rest. The 18 modes cover practically every common shooting
scenario including Portrait, Fireworks, Sports, Landscape, Sunset and
many more.
- As soon as you grab the E-420, you'll
notice how naturally it fits in your hand. The improved grip is
ergonomically designed for superior comfort. The E-420's body is
lightweight and stylish so it's a pleasure to carry and use for hours
at a time.
- Accepting CompactFlash Type I & II,
Microdrives, and xD-Picture Cards, the E-420 provides a choice of data
storage options for enhanced flexibility, and it is possible to
transfer image files from one card to the other right inside the
camera.
- Perfect Shot Preview enables you to
view and select your favorite effect right on the LCD, and see how the
image will look before you even capture it.
- Fire of a burst of shots at 3.5 frames
per second. The E-420's burst rate is perfect for capturing the ideal
shot at backyard birthday parties or at youth soccer games.
- The E420's Auto White Balance function
analyzes information from the scene and calibrates how a white object
should appear under a variety of light sources, so your images turn
out vibrant and life like.
- The benefits of the Four Thirds Mount
on the E-420 are many. You get a digitally designed image sensor, a
compact design, as well as expandability and compatibility with the
rest of the Four Thirds System.
-
Olympus' Zuiko Digital™ lenses provide
edge-to-edge pixel-perfect clarity. Unlike film lenses, these
advanced, precision-engineered 100-percent digital lenses are designed
to work perfectly with all the camera's digital technology

-

Auto Focus Live View
Now featuring an advanced new auto focus
system, the E-420’s Live View function is easier than ever to use and
enables you to take photographs while you’re looking at the LCD monitor.
The high-speed Imager AF*1 allows you to focus by
half-pressing the shutter button and shoot pictures just like you would
with a compact camera.
Detects up to 8 faces
automatically
Face Detection & Shadow
Adjustment Technology *2
When you’re using Live View, the Face
Detection and Shadow Adjustment Technology automatically detects up to
8 faces at a time, adjusting focus appropriately and compensating for
over-exposed and under-exposed areas. This makes it possible to
capture both faces and background with well-balanced brightness.
Faces can also be detected during playback, making it easy to enlarge
them to check details.
HyperCrystal II LCD Monitor
The E-420 features an improved 2.7-inch
HyperCrystal II LCD monitor with high-definition 230,000-dots
(approx.) resolution. With improved contrast ratio, enhanced colour
reproduction capability, and wide viewing angles of 176 degrees,
images on screen are clear and easy to see. Whether shooting from
ground level or over the head, it’s easy and hassle-free with Live
View.
Precise Focusing
When taking pictures, you can magnify
the image on the display up to 10 times normal size, enabling precise
focusing. Autofocusing after magnifying the image is also possible.
Perfect Shot Preview
The newly added Perfect Shot Preview
function allows simultaneous visual comparison of the effects of up to
4 different exposure and white balance settings. You can set the
adjustments simply by selecting one of the images on the monitor.

This 3x standard
zoom lens is the smallest and lightest* in its class and
features a closest focusing distance of only 25cm. The
ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and two aspherical lens
elements correct aberrations without increasing lens
dimensions. The circular aperture diaphragm enables
beautiful defocusing - one of the big advantages of this
lens. Excellent mobility is assured by a weight of less
than 190 grams.

300mm (35mm
equivalent) lens in a short 7.2cm body with ED lens
elements, ensuring both picture quality and portability.
Boasting the smallest size and lightest weight in its
class, this cost-efficient 3.8x telephoto lens uses an
ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens element for optimum
correction of chromatic aberrations. Incorporating a
circular aperture diaphragm for beautiful defocusing,
this lens assures high picture quality throughout the
zoom range, as well as providing an astonishingly short
closest focusing distance of 90cm throughout the zoom
range. |

camera memory. A Compact Flash card is about the size of a
matchbook and only weighs half an ounce.
CompactFlash cards are designed with flash technology, a

solid state, meaning they contain no moving parts, and provide
users with much greater protection of their data than
conventional magnetic disk drives. CompactFlash provides the
