A reversing ring fits between the camera and lens and enables the reverse mounting of lenses, so you actually shoot through your lens backwards. You have to make sure that the ring you’re using matches both your body mount and your lens’ filter thread (measured in mm). Focus is achieved by gently moving your camera backwards and forwards, in the same way you would with a close-up lens / filter. Using a reversing ring gives a 1:1 ratio at a fraction of the cost of a macro lens. However, you will not have the same level of control as with a macro lens because you’ll lose automatic functions such as aperture priority. Working in manual mode is probably the easiest way to use this accessory. (thanks to Photopedia for this information).
