MARKING STITCH -CROSS STITCH ALPHABETS

MARKING STITCH is probably the oldest stitch in the world.

The marking of the linen in a bride's trousseau was done mainly for identification in laundering, and for household inventory purposes.

Many beautiful ornamental alphabets originated in manuscript writings were translated to embroidered letters and were used to embelish the finest pieces in a trousseau, and whenever the girls adopted existing patterns, they always contributed their own creativity in composition and colours.

This is a nice book offering a collection of old and modern alphabets for cross stitch.

They are suitable for samplers and Monograms for linens and garments,

There are a total of  70 Alphabets  , among them floral alphabets, 2 alphabets for edges and a russian and greek alphabets.

Many of these alphabets are also suitable for filet crochet.

Author: Barbara Mueller, hardcover edition, 2 pages german text, 95 Pgs w/ charted patterns. 2001 Rosenheimer Verlag:70 Complete Alphabets  , among them floral alphabets, 2 alphabets for edges  (diagonal)  and a russian and greek alphabets. Very good condition.
