ODD Antique CARNIVAL Glass SNAIL shape INKWELL ? BOTTLE

Offered for your bidding is this Antique, and quite UnUsual and Intriguing, Iridized Carnival Glass piece I believe is an Inkwell or Ink Bottle or Jar ! It is very interestingly made, and resembles the shape of a Snail. It is made with Embossed (raised) designs of Scrolling Vines and Flowers encircling the outer edges of both of the Round Sides, and a Row of Embossed Oblong or Teardrop shapes around the Center Circles on both sides. Inside the Center Circle on Both Sides is made a Debossed or impressed, open sided place which appears to be made so to Hang the bottle on a Stand, possibly for tilting it to dispense the Ink into the Well. The extended "well" is made with raised ribs around the sides, and a thick, ground Lip or rim. It is a iridized light marigold or amber color in which I can see Purples & Greens. The glass is Thick and heavy for its size.

I've had this piece for a very, very long time, hoping to come across something similar to identify it, but I have never seen anything else like this. If someone else has any information or an educated guess on this piece, please email me!

MEASUREMENTS:

3-3/8 inches long by 1-7/8 inches wide at the widest points

This old piece is not without problems, but far too unusual and rare to discard! The "Well" which extends from it was evidently broken off clean, and "fixed" back in place. The repair job was not good, and there is old glass or glue, or whatever was used, all around the repair and down inside. I am unsure what it is. Perhaps a Glass maker could restore or repair this correctly? The Main Round part appears to have been an Ink Reservoir, but the opening between the Well and the Reservoir is sealed over. The Lip or Rim of the Well has a couple of flakes and roughness. There are a couple of very small bruises to the glass which you have to look closely for to see, and the glass has some light colored stain or deposits in spots. Not in perfect condition, but certainly a very hard to find piece, sure to boost curiosity and conversation!

This would be a Terrific addition to Any Collection or Display! Very Interesting and certainly very old! Offered at a Low Starting Bid!
