A definition of social exclusion which states that exclusion is a social process that crosses many sector boundaries is used.  It goes on to give an example of a personal experience and to identify stigma and discrimination as possible outcomes both within the workplace and the community, which can be caused by the lack of understanding of mental health illness by the layperson within our society.   The assignment shows how inclusion can be promoted within society by health and social care professionals following a mental health diagnosis using the Care Programme Approach.  Service providers and resources which are able to provide support for those with or without a mental health illness diagnosis will be identified at national, regional and local level.  Finally, suggestion of how to promote a more inclusive society for those who through no fault of their own find themselves to be excluded is offered.
