Between 1945 and an early 1990's test ban treaty, which forbid the further experimental detonation of critical masses of nuclear material, the United States conducted at least 928 tests (some 828 underground and 100 atmospheric) involving the detonation of nuclear weapons or supercritical nuclear physics packages.  The majority of these tests were conducted at the DOE Nevada Test Site about 90 miles north of Las Vegas Nevada.  While the precise aspects of these tests, and their results, were classified and generally remain so to this date, the fact that a named test was being conducted was unclassified and generally became public knowledge well before the fact.  It eventually became an universal expectation that a production run of event-identifying decals would be produced and distributed to planners and participants alike preceding each event.  A visit to a DOD contractor in the nuclear business, or a walk through Las Vegas' McCarren Airport in the 1960's or 1970's would invariably result in the sighting of a suitcase, briefcase or clipboard with one or more such event decals affixed.  Once attached and "travelled", these decals were essentially used and became very difficult to salvage in pristine condition.  In this listing are 9 mint condition adhesive backed decals representative of several of the nuclear weapons tests, weapons effects tests and nuclear weapon accident exercises conducted at the Nevada Test Site during the 1970's and 1980's.  On some, the adhesive may have dried slightly, but the backing paper has never been removed from any of them. The specific event decals offered are:

Nuclear events:  DIAMOND SKULLS - July 1972

                         DIDO QUEEN - June 1973

                          MING BLADE - June 1974

                         STILTON/HUSHED ECHO - June 1975

Nuclear Weapon Accident Exercises (NUWAX) - the very first government-wide field exercises employing a live radioactive contaminant to provide for the realistic exercise and evaluation of participating radiological assessment teams.

NUWAX-79 (tho missed by the scan, the actual color is black on pale salmon pink)

                          NUWAX-81

                          NUWAX-83
