The Nokia N97 is Nokia's long awaited 'mobile computer' handset which takes smart phone evolution to the next level. With the technology inside mobile phones becoming more and more advanced and sophisticated, it was only really a matter of time before the gap between laptop computers and mobile phones began to close. The Nokia N97, with its removable memory, full Qwerty keyboard, wireless internet access and email support is perhaps the closest thing to a mobile laptop computer the world has seen so far.

The Nokia N97 is a real powerhouse of a phone. It boasts a great camera, music player, ample space for storing photos and songs, a colossal 48GB of maximum memory, full Qwerty keyboard, fast HDSPA internet capabilities and access to Nokia's Ovi Store. Touch Sensitive 16:9 Screen

The 3.5" 16 million colour display has been formatted to play video and movie clips in the 16:9 aspect ratio when the phone is active in it's landscape mode. With it's high-speed HSDPA internet capabilities, the Nokia N97 is ideal for viewing clips on YouTube and Vimeo on the move, as well as viewing any clips you may have filmed on the camera. The display is a resistive touchscreen which features a touch feedback buzz which vibrates around a localized area wherever you press on the screen, handy when you're navigating menus and web pages, as this eliminates the chance of you accidentally clicking a link - you'll know when you've clicked on something as the screen will confirm selections with a slight vibration.

Powerful 5 Megapixel Camera with Carl Zeiss optics

The same powerful 5 megapixel camera which put the Nokia N95 on the map returns to the N97. Dual LED flash is present to provide illumination is poorly lit areas. The flash can be set to go automatically, or can be manually adjusted to suit your preferences. Red eye reduction and tagging of GPS co-ordinates is also available. Pictures are taken by either simply tapping the screen, of by a press of the dedicated shutter button located at the top of the phone when it is held in landscape mode.

Switching between image and camera mode is simple. The N97 shoots video at 30 frames per second, at nHD - quarter full High Definition - resolution. Videos shot on the N97 are converted to MPEG-4 video files, and are easily transferable to your desktop or laptop PC. Everything is shot or filmed through a high quality Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, ensuring that all pictures and videos capture as much detail as clearly as possible.

Sounds Good - Multi-Format Music Player

The Nokia N97 features two speakers that are situated at the base of the phone when the N97 is in portrait mode. The N97 also features a 3.5mm headphone jack which allows you to listen to your music through any pair of headphones or external speakers you like. Bluetooth connectivity also allows you to sync your Nokia N97 with a wireless headset for added convenience. The music player of the Nokia N97 is capable of playing all of the major music file formats, including MP3, WMA, and most of the AAC variants (AAC, eAAC, and eAAC+).

Ovi Store - Opening Doors around the World

Ovi Store is Nokia's long awaited online app store which allows millions of mobile users around the world to download thousands of free wallpapers, ringtones, apps, widgets and extra features for their phones. Combine this with the massive 48GB of memory available on the Nokia N97 and you get a near infinite level of customisability.

Pick and choose from a cornucopia of applications including Facebook, Twittix (Twitter for Nokia), City Guides/Maps from WorldMate 2009, Nokia Photo Browser, as well as mobile gaming favourites such as Bejeweled, Pac Man and Sudoku. Popular music streaming applications such as Last.fm are readily available for use on Symbian handsets, and Spotify are currently working on a mobile version of their free music offering.

Symbian S60 - Instant Familiarity

If you have used a Nokia phone before, chances are you'll feel right at home with the N97. It runs on the Series 60 Symbian platform, which features on the majority of Nokia phones. The Nokia N97 runs on the 5th edition of S60 Symbian, a version adapted specifically for touchscreen devices, so some features and actions will be slightly different. It doesn't take long getting used to the Symbian way of doing things, and soon you'll be effortlessly uploading videos, taking pics and sending texts and emails all on one device.
