Operation and Early Detection:

Using Electromagnetic Technology, the PD1 REAR parking sensor will scan the full length of your bumper, from end to end picking up all objects behind your vehicle. The PD1 REAR detects children, people, adults the elderly plus cars, vehicles, small kerbs, walls, barriers, pillars, posts, skips, etc. Whatever is behind you can rest assured the PD1 REAR will detect this object and alert you to its presence allowing you to react, with time to spare.

The Antenna is a very strong flexible adhesive metallic tape that mounts behind the bumper. Its 2.7m length ensures 100% bumper coverage of even the largest vehicle, offering a full, all round detection zone. This can be cut to any length in seconds.

The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is the 'brain' of the PD1, and mounts securely using the supplied adhesive strip either inside the boot or behind the vehicle bumper. Dimensions of this discrete unit are (L57mm x H13mm x D33mm)

The Speaker is small and at just 20mm in diameter mounts anywhere inside the vehicle. The audible tones that are emitted to alert you of the proximity of surrounding objects can be clearly heard even when mounted at the back of the vehicle close to interior panels.

Universal Installation Instructions are included covering the easy 3-wire installation enabling any basic DIYer to install this without any problems making the installation simple, safe and secure.

CAN Bus Systems:

Many new cars and vehicles now come with the CAN Bus multiplex wiring system fitted. The PD-1 is fully CAN Bus compatible and requires no adjustment or extra accessories when installing. Beware of ultrasonic sytems that require extra wiring and relay components in order to integrate with CAN Bus. 

CAN Bus is a multiplexed wiring system used to connect intelligent devices such as Electronic Control Units (ECU's) on vehicles, allowing data to be transferred in a low-cost and reliable manner. CAN means 'Controller Area Network' and was developed by Bosch in 1980. Many new cars and vehicles use this system and it is becoming increasingly difficult to install after-market products without using a CAN Bus compatible device.

Vehicles Fitted with a Tow Bar:

Parking Dynamics PD1 REAR is the recommended Parking Sensor for vehicles with a Tow bar fitted as performance is not affected. Its the only Parking Sensor available that is compatible with vehicles that have a towbar fitted.

Vehicles with Spare Wheel on Rear Door:

The Parking Dynamics PD1 REAR will continue to operate effectively when fitted to vehicles with a Spare Wheel on the rear door such as 4x4, MPV or SUV's. We have fitted many PD1 REAR parking sensors to these vehicles without problems.

If you have a Spare Wheel on your Rear Door, please specify this when placing your order & we will dispatch an additional antenna.

Vehicles with a Metal Bumper:

The Parking Dynamics PD1 REAR is not compatible with metal bumpers straight out of the box. However with a few insulating adjustments to your metal bumper, the PD1 REAR will be fully compatible. See the tech sheet here:

Mounting the Electronic Control Unit (ECU):

The ECU can be installed in various locations such as inside the boot behind the trim or inside of the rear bumper with the included adhesive mount.

Mounting the Speaker:

Mount the parking sensor speaker using the included adhesive mount in the boot onto any plastic trim or shelf or to the rear parcel shelf. The volume is loud enough to provide a good warning even if mounted close to the trim. This connects into the unit by push fit connection.

Mounting the Antenna:

Mount the adhesive metallic parking sensor antenna onto the inside of the rear bumper (making sure the bumper surface is clean before attaching) with the connector on the side where you have located the ECU. When the antenna has been attached, covering the whole of the bumper from left to right, the excess length is cut off. Place a piece of tape at either end of the antenna to ensure a secure installation onto the bumper.

It is important that the antenna is installed at the highest part from the ground that corresponds to the furthest distance from the vehicle body as a precaution to prevent any interference from metal parts. The recommended position of the parking sensor antenna is at least 40cm from ground level, but 50cm is optimum. 

Once the bumper is removed, if your vehicle has a metal crash protection bar and you think that the antenna will be within 3 cm's of this metal bar (once the bumper is re-fitted) then you can cover this using Black Duct Tape to prevent any interference. This is available from any DIY store. Please Do Not use silver Duct Tape as this contains metal particles.

Electrical Connections

1) Black wire MUST be connected to the ground (body / chassis) of the vehicle.
2) Red wire is connected to the 12V supply wire of the reversing light. Live only when reverse gear is selected.
3) Connect the antenna connection wire from the unit to the antenna

Bumper Removal

99% of car & vehicle bumpers are made of plastic. When installing the Parking Dynamics PD1 REAR car parking sensor, depending on your vehicle, the bumper may have to be removed, but on some cars you can get away with just loosening the bumper by releasing the locator screws. If you choose to pay for installation most auto electricians, mechanics and body shop technicians will remove the bumper literally in minutes.

Removal of the bumper is not as difficult as it at first may seem and is typically held on with 2-4 screws and some locators. In a few cases rivets are used that need to be drilled out and simply replaced from your dealer parts department (at a minimal cost) when re-fitting.

If you are a keen DIYer and will be installing the PD1 REAR parking sensor yourself, (if required) you can ask your dealer parts department for an exploded view (print off) of your rear bumper, this will show you exactly how the bumper is held on to the vehicle and where any screws, locators or rivets can be found. Alternatively a Haynes Manual will detail this information.
