Nils Henrik ASHEIM : Orkan Anne-Lise Berntsen (soprano), Øystein Birkeland (cello), Kjetil Skøien (voice) & Nils Henrik Asheim (piano & electronics) Aurora CD
Nils Henrik Asheim is a composer, pianist and organist who studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Sweelinck conservatory in Amsterdam. His production ranges from chamber and orchestral works with national and international performances, to the fanfare for the Olympic Winter Games at Lillehammer. 'Orkan', which translates as 'hurricane' or 'tempest' is a cycle of musical pieces by Asheim set to texts by Sigbjørn Obstfelder (1866-1900). Obstfelder is one of the most important writers in late 19th century Norway, and among the first modernists in the country. Asheim's music to Obstfelders text is multi-dimentional and engaging contemporary music in a chamber format. |
