How to a pressure washer?
Pressure washers make cleaning faster, better and easier. They deliver up to 75 times more pressure than an ordinary garden hose to give you the cleaning power you need to return surfaces to like-new condition. Choosing a model that is powerful and durable enough to fit your cleaning needs is key.
How much pressure do you need?
Pressure is measured in pounds per square inch (PSI) and determines how much power the unit has to clean surfaces.
If you purchase a washer that isn't powerful enough, it won't be of use. Decide on a unit that has too much power and you'll risk damaging the surfaces you're cleaning. Pick a unit that has the appropriate pressure for the type of work you'll be doing.
PSI and GPM
The cleaning power of your pressure washer is based on two factors: water pressure (PSI) and water flow (GPM).
PSI is the water pressure developed, measured in pounds per square inch. This is the force that breaks the bond between dirt and the surface.
GPM is the water flow delivered to the spray gun, measured in gallons per minute. It gives you the power to break down the dirt and wash it away.
Both PSI and GPM are important for truly effective cleaning. The higher the combination of these numbers, the more area you can effectively clean, and the faster you can clean it.
When it comes to pressure washers, the actual cleaning is done by the nozzle or the tip of the washer. The spray angle of the nozzle is adjustable to fit the cleaning need.
What will you use it for?
Most people purchase a pressure washer to use around the house. To wash your car or clean your deck, you'll need a pressure washer with 1,500 to 2,000 PSI.
