How Does TENS Relieve Pain?

Conductive electrodes are used to transmit electrical impulses from the stimulator to the nerve fibres. Pain relief is achieved by two distinct different mechanisms. Using high frequency TENS, stimulation of the large diameter nerve fibres acts as a 'Gate Control' to block pain transmission. Alternatively by using low frequency 'Burst' Stimulation, an increase in the body's own pain relieving endorphins/enkephalins provides analgesia.

The Acustim probe included with this unit additionally allows the precise stimulation of acupuncture points without the use of needles) This can be used for both pain relief and the treatment of other conditions using acupuncture.
