Exceptional scarce high grade silver (0.640) coin struck for two years (1848/1849. Difficult to obtain higher graded pieces. Dutch people have a long history which can be traced on 8/9th. centuries. During many years were embattled in military disputes with Austria and Spain. After had been revolted vs Spain on 1568, the North part formed on 1581, the Union of Utrecht, and became the Republic of the United Netherlands. The following Century brought the Golden Age of Dutch History, and became a great sea and colonial power, which ended on 1795 forced by the Napoleon Wars, and Napoleon brother, ascended to the throne (1806-1810). On 1813 the Dutch expelled the French and merged with Belgium and created the United Netherlands. The Belgians withdrew on 1830 to form their own Kingdom. Later, on 1940, were invaded by the German Army and got involved on the 2nd. World War (1939/1945). The Royal Family fled to England were a government-in-exile was formed. King Willem II ruled from 1840 to 1849. |
