Absolutely gorgeous,Bosun's whistle, like those of old and still used by the British Royal Navy. Heavy brass and copper construction with sturdy chain. Comes in Beautiful mahogany box with an inlaid brass anchor on top. The Boatswains whistle was first used on English ships in the thirteenth century, during the crusades and became known as "The Call" about 1670 when the Lord High Admiral of the Navy wore a gold whistle as a badge of honor. Whistle comes complete with a full history as well techniques of calls used to pass orders to the ship's crews. Measures 4-1/2" long with 19" chain. A great treasure for the nautical history buff.
