Instructions for using the Nitty Gritty Head Lice Solution:

Before Use:

• If you are PREGNANT, BREASTFEEDING, EPILEPTIC or planning to use Nitty Gritty Solution on a child under the age of two, please consult your doctor or health visitor first.
• Oil can occasionally cause staining, so please cover your clothes with an old towel to protect them from splashes.
• Shake the bottle well.
• Avoid contact with eyes and clothing.
• In the very unlikely event of an allergic reaction rinse the Solution out immediately with water, and then shampoo well.
• Use a nit comb to check for lice, nits and eggs.
• Check the whole family... not everyone itches! Then apply Nitty Gritty Solution with a nit comb on anyone who shows signs of infestation. When using with the enclosed plastic nit comb, repeat the process ten days later*.

* If using with our Nitty Gritty NitFree comb, this shouldn't be necessary as it removes the eggs as well as the lice.

Instructions for Use:

1. Brush and comb the hair to remove any tangles, then part the hair into sections. [This makes it much harder for any live lice in the hair to move away from the comb.]
2. Apply the Solution directly to dry hair. Make sure that you saturate the roots and scalp.
3. Comb the Solution through the entire length of the hair from scalp to tip using the enclosed plastic nit comb.[Or for the very best results, and to remove eggs before they hatch, use the Solution with our Nitty Gritty NitFree Comb.] Comb through each section of hair several times in different directions, clearing trapped lice from the comb as you go.
4. Leave the Solution on for at least 20 minutes. Continue combing frequently until you are sure that you have got everything out, taking the comb along the whole length of the hair on each stroke.
5. Wash the Solution out with your regular shampoo, and rinse thoroughly. Then just shampoo again and dry the hair as you would normally.
6. Repeat ten days later to clear newly-hatched lice, unless you are using the Solution with our Nitty Gritty NitFree Comb. [because it removes eggs before they hatch, the NitFree Comb puts a stop to any infestation immediately.]

IS NITTY GRITTY SUITABLE FOR ASTHMATICS AND ECZEMA SUFFERERS?
Hundreds of asthma and eczema sufferers have used Nitty Gritty successfully, without any side effects. In fact, several mums have contacted us to tell us that our Nitty Gritty Solution has helped soothe their child’s eczema. For added peace of mind, we suggest you rub a small amount of the product on your child's neck and if there is no reaction after half an hour, then continue to use, following the instructions carefully. If in doubt, please contact your GP for advice.

IS NITTY GRITTY SUITABLE FOR NUT ALLERGY SUFFERERS?
Nitty Gritty products do not contain any nut oils, and we endeavour to make sure that our ingredients do not come into contact with any nut product at any time during the manufacturing process. One of the ingredients in Nitty Gritty is Neem oil. Neem is not considered a nut, and someone with a nut allergy should not have any problem with products containing Neem. HOWEVER, as it is possible to experience an adverse or allergic reaction to almost any ingredient in any product, we strongly recommend applying a very small 'test' amount of each Nitty Gritty liquid product to the inner arm before use. Wait for 24 hours, to be sure that there is no adverse reaction, before using the product according to the instructions provided.

CAN I USE THE NITTY GRITTY SOLUTION IF I AM PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?
As mothers first and foremost, we always suggest that while pregnant (particularly in the first three months), nothing should be used to treat head lice other than our NitFree comb with conditioner (or olive oil).
This is because, anything at all (including perfume, shampoo conditioner etc) you put on the head or body, gets absorbed into the blood stream in miniscule amounts and possibly could cross into the placenta.
This also applies if you are breastfeeding. Again the oils will be absorbed into the blood stream in miniscule amounts and could possibly cross into the breast milk, making the taste of the milk slightly different. This applies to anything though - if you eat a curry, then your baby may get curry flavoured milk!
Also if you are using the solution on your child, try and get your partner to do it, or if you have to, may we suggest using disposable gloves.

CAN I USE THE NITTY GRITTY SOLUTION ON COLOUR TREATED HAIR?
Yes, the Solution is fine on coloured treated hair as it doesn't contain chemicals. In fact, it makes the most wonderful conditioner leaving the hair in perfect condition. If you still have doubts, just do a "strand test"
