Multi-Format Player: ThI ALL ZONE Yamaha is a universal player, which offers playback of the ultra high-resolution multi-channel audio formats SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) and DVD-Audio. Both, with their wide frequency responses, capture subtle details that make music sound richer and more real.
Multi-channel DVD-Audio Playback: DVD-Audio is a multi-channel format used for high resolution recording supporting up to six channels of PCM audio. This unit can decode and play DVD-Audio discs with a sampling rate up to 192 kHz with a 24-bit word length. Many DVD-Audio discs also offer photo galleries, artist biographies, lyrics, etc to accompany the music.
SACD: Unlike PCM based technology (CD, MiniDisc, DVD, DVD-Audio, etc.), Super Audio CD is based on Direct Stream Digital (DSD) encoding, which does not require decimation and interpolation filters. DSD is much simpler and enables a 1-bit signal to be recorded directly. DSD encodes music at 2,822,400 samples per second (64 times that of standard CD) allowing you to hear sound with incredible detail and clarity. DSD combines the advantages of digital recording with the best characteristics of analog sound. This REGION CODE FREE unit will play 2-channel and multi-channel Super Audio CDs recorded on single layer, dual layer, and hybrid discs. During SACD playback, there is no output from the coaxial or optical digital outputs, however, you can receive 2-channel or multi-channel output from the HDMI and analog jacks.
Disc Compatibility: This ALL ZONE can play pre-recorded DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, Super Audio CD (SACD), Audio CD, Video CD, and Super Video CD discs. Additionally it is compatible with recordings on DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+RW DL, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. MP3, WMA, DivX, and JPEG files recorded on DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R or CD-RW are also supported. Furthermore, it will play all PAL DVS, SECAM DVS, NTSC DVS, Region 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 RCE/REA DVDs
DivX: This unit is an official DivX Ultra Certified product. It plays all versions of DivX video (including DivX 6) with enhanced playback of DivX media files and the DivX Media Format.
PlayXchange: Using PlayXchange up to 4 discs can be changed while the 5th plays, without having to rotate the tray.
Video Circuit: It uses high power 12-bit/216 MHz video D/A converter to ensure highly accurate playback of delicate, low-level video signals and give you a vivid picture that is faithful in every detail.
DCDi by Faroudja: This unit is equipped with Faroudja's patented Directional Correlational De interlacing (DCDi), which virtually alleviates jagged oblique lines that appear when standard interlaced video is viewed on progressive scan displays, resulting in beautiful, natural-looking moving images.
Audio Processing: This unit uses a 24-bit/192 kHz audio D/A converter to maintain extraordinary sound quality. It has built-in Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic II (for 2-channel material), and MPEG decoders along with the 5.1-channel analog outputs for DVD-Audio and SACD.
HDMI Output: The HDMI output simplifies A/V connections by carrying uncompressed SD or HD digital video and up to 8 channels of digital audio all in one cable. It conforms to HDCP copyright protection technology, and must be connected to an HDCP-compliant device with an HDMI or DVI (with adapter) input. This unit features a high quality video scaler that is capable of outputting video signals in a variety of formats. You can select the HDMI output as 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, or Auto (automatically set to match the monitor). The audio portion of the HDMI output must be turned off if you're using the optical or coaxial digital output. If the HDMI audio output is turned on, the optical and coaxial digital outputs are muted.
Disc Selection: Using the buttons on the front panel you can directly access the 5 discs.
Screen Saver: With the screen saver feature turned on, if the player is stopped or paused for 15 minutes the screen saver engages.
NTSC/PAL Compatible: The monitor type can be set to NTSC, PAL, or Multi. If you have an NTSC TV, set the output to NTSC and PAL discs will be converted. The Multi setting switches the output to NTSC or PAL depending upon the original signal on the loaded disc.
DVD Video Mode: Because some DVD-Audio discs have a DVD-Video section, this player gives you the option of specifying the DVD-Video mode.
Picture Settings: There are three pre-defined sets of picture color settings and one personal setting that you can define yourself. You can select Standard, Bright, or Soft presets. The personal setting lets you personalize the picture by setting the brightness, sharpness, contrast, tint, and color.
Advanced Picture Quality Adjustments: In addition to the basic picture settings, you can fine-tune the following video parameters: DCDi, gamma, chroma delay, wide screen format, true life, and DVI output range.
Digital Audio Output: Depending on the input capability of your pre-amp, set the digital output to 48kHz or 96kHz. When playing copyright-protected PCM signals, the digital output is automatically down-converted to 48kHz.
Bass Management: When using the 5.1-channel analog outputs you can tailor the frequency, level, and delay to the bass handling capabilities and configuration of your speaker system. The front, center, and surround speakers can be set to Large or Small. The center and surround speakers can also be set to Off. The subwoofer is set to On or Off. The delay time is adjustable from 0 to 15ms for the center, surround left, and surround right speakers. You can also adjust the relative output level for each speaker from -12 to 0 dB.
Night Mode: The dynamic range is lowered in night mode, allowing you to listen at night without disturbing others. The loud peaks are softened, while the low volume sections are brought upward to a listenable level. This mode works only with Dolby Digital soundtracks.
Virtual Surround: In a system without rear speakers, virtual surround gives the sensation of being surrounded by multiple speakers.
MP3/WMA/JPEG Playback: This unit will play MP3, WMA, and JPEG files recorded onto DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R and CD-RW discs. You can play up to 298 folders and up to 648 files per folder with up to 8 hierarchies. MP3 files should be recorded at a bit rate between 24 and 256 kbps, while WMA files should be recorded at 32-192 kbps.
JPEG Playback: JPEG files can be displayed 12 at a time using the preview function, or one at a time manually or as a slideshow. You can also rotate and flip images for proper orientation. The zoom feature allows you to enlarge the picture at 100%, 125%, 150%, or 200%. While enlarged, you can move around the image using the arrow buttons on the remote.
CD Upsampling: When playing audio CDs, you can convert the signal to a higher sampling rate, using sophisticated digital signal processing to improve the sound quality. You can convert the sampling rate to 88.2kHz (x2), or 176.4kHz (x4). When the upsampling feature is turned off, the CDs are sampled at the standard 44.1kHz.
Resume Play Function: This function allows you to resume DVD playback at the point where you left off for the last ten DVDs you've played.
Slow Motion Speeds: When playing a disc with video content, you can move forward or backward through the program in one of four slow-motion speeds (1/16x, 1/8x, 1/4x, and 1/2x).
Scanning Speeds: There are five fast forward and reverse scanning speeds, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, and 32x.
Zoom: During video playback, you can enlarge the picture by 2x, 3x, or 4x. You can then use the cursor buttons to move the enlarged viewing area up, down, left, or right.
Program Playback: You can create a playlist of up to 20 video chapters or audio tracks from one disc to playback in the order you like. The five discs in the player can also be programmed for playback in any order (each plays its tracks/chapters in order).
Parental Control: This unit allows you to set playback restrictions for DVDs. You can select a parental control rating level from 1 to 8, which is protected by a 6-digit password. For unrated material, up to 40 discs can be individually locked (Disc Lock feature), requiring the password for playback.
Sleep Timer: The player can be set to turn off automatically after 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes.
Display Dimming: The unit's display can be adjusted in 3 steps: Normal (100% brightness), Mode 1 (70% brightness), or Mode 2 (40% brightness plus all front panel indicators off).
Remote Control/GUI: The unit comes with a full-function remote control (DVD17) with discrete power on and standby buttons. Operations are made simple through the Graphical User Interface (GUI) menus on your TV or monitor screen. You can easily select and adjust any desired function with the remote.
