Teleplus is one of the top converter brands (made in Japan by Kenko), and this is a high quality, seven element, multicoated AF model. It's suitable for Pentax AF 35mm and Pentax/Samsung digital SLR cameras, plus PK and KA manual focus models (see below) and is new and boxed with case, front and rear caps plus instructions.

The optical design uses seven elements for optimum quality - cheaper models often only have four elements. Multicoated (MC) glass to reduce flare and light loss, and increase contrast and colour fidelity.

This converter fits between the camera and lens, and doubles the focal length. It can be used with many lenses (except some types where the rear elements protrude too far), but works best with standard, telephoto and zoom lenses. A 50mm standard becomes a 100mm portrait lens, a reasonably priced 70-210mm becomes a 140-420mm, and a 300mm telephoto becomes a 600mm super telephoto.

Used on most digital SLRs (see below) even longer effective focal lengths are produced. On a camera with a 1.5x focal length multiplier a 50mm f/1.7 standard lens becomes a 75mm portrait, and with this converter you get the effect of a 150mm f/3.4 medium telephoto lens.

The converter couples to the camera's auto diaphragm and full aperture metering systems, and will work in all exposure and metering modes (see below) with suitable lenses. TTL metering systems (including TTL flash) will handle the 2 stops exposure adjustment required automatically. Extra contacts provided for Power Zoom lenses (see below).

The close focusing distance of the original lens is retained, so you get extra magnification for close ups. A zoom lens that focuses down to 1:4 (one quarter life size) on its own will manage 1:2 (half life size) with the converter. Auto focusing is maintained if the combination of lens and converter is fast enough for your camera's AF system to operate. Faster lenses (f/2.8 or better) will usually auto focus OK. Slow lenses (from around f/4) will probably have to be focused manually, especially on older cameras.

This Teleplus Pz-AF 2x MC7 converter is very nicely made (in Japan) with a solid barrel, metal lens mounts and a high standard of fit and finish. It adds only around 35mm (1.5 inches) to the length of the lens attached, and weighs a mere 160g. While this is not the latest DG version, it works fine on film and digital cameras.

This converter is Pentax AF fitting, suitable for Pentax auto focus 35mm and digital SLR cameras, plus manual focus K and KA models, and many other cameras using the popular PK mount, as follows:

Fits and works fully on all Pentax 35mm AF SLR cameras, including the SFX (SF1), SFXn (SF1n), SF7, Z-1 (PZ-1), Z-1P (PZ-1P), Z-10 (PZ-10), Z-20 (PZ-20), Z-70 (PZ-70), MZ-3, MZ-5 (ZX-5), MZ-5n (ZX-5n), MZ-6 (ZX-L), MZ-7 (ZX-7), MZ-10 (ZX-10), MZ-30 (ZX-30), MZ-50 (ZX-50) MZ-60 (ZX-60), MZ-S and *ist. Auto or manual focus (with a suitable lens), compatible with all normal exposure and metering modes. Contacts are included for Power Zoom lenses.

Fully compatible with the Pentax *ist D, DS, DS2, DL, DL2, K100D, K100D Super, K110D, K200D, K10D and K20D digital SLR cameras - the focal length range will be increased by 50 per cent (see above). Equally suitable for the Pentax-based Samsung GX-1S, GX-1L, GX-10 and GX-20 cameras, but not other Samsung models. The Shake Reduction (SR) feature works to reduce camera shake at slow shutter speeds on the K100D, K100D Super, K10D, K20D, GX-10 and GX-20, though only the focal length of the original lens is reported, so there may be some loss of effectiveness. Auto or manual focus (with a suitable lens), compatible with all normal exposure and metering modes. Contacts are included for Supersonic Drive Motor lenses, though we haven't been able to confirm that the SDM system is compatible with converters - these lenses may only work with the screw-drive system.

It will also fit and work fine with manual focusing on all manual focus bayonet-fit Pentax cameras, including the KM, KX, K2, K1000, ME, MX, ME Super, ME-F, MG, LX, Super A, Program A, P30 series, P50, A3, MZ-M (with full viewfinder display) and others. The mechanical and electronic connections are included for auto diaphragm, full aperture metering and compatibility with program/shutter priority modes on all suitable Pentax models.

Also fits numerous Chinons (with program modes on all suitable models, including the CP-9AF with manual focusing, and not with Chinon AF lenses), Ricohs (no program/shutter bias modes), Cosinas, Vivitars and other Pentax K mount cameras, with auto diaphragm, full aperture metering and manual focus.

NOTE: Some independent lenses and accessories don't work correctly on modern cameras. We've checked this converter on a recent Pentax *ist DS DSLR and of course it works fine! Please contact us if you have any questions about compatibility with your equipment.
