Due to the superior quality and close grain of our teak there is no need to oil our furniture. In time the wood will mellow to a beautiful silver/grey colour, however a regular application of teak oil will preserve the darker 'as new' colour if you prefer.

Top quality teak is expensive because it's in high demand and requires tedious processing. Teak trees are aged 30 to 50 years before being felled. Then the trees are dried in a kiln for eight months until most of the moisture is removed, and sliced into lumber.
Your first clue is often price. As with most things in life, the better the product, the bigger the price tag.
High-quality teak is heavy, with a smooth grain and no knots or small pieces glued together. Lesser-quality teak furniture is apt to be lightweight, knotted and held together with metal screws and bolts.
Although the cost of good teak furniture can be daunting at first, you have to think of it as an investment.
Quality teak furniture is a bargain over a lifetime.
Outdoor furniture experts offer the following tips when shopping for quality teak furniture:

Look for furniture that's constructed from one or several large pieces of wood, instead of many small pieces glued or screwed together

Check to see how big of a gap there is between the slats. Better furniture will have a smaller gap (approximately ½ inch) compared to 2-inch gaps between the slats in lower-grade furniture.

Look for a smooth grain. Hardwood teak won't be streaked. The grain will be nice and consistent.

Check to make sure the furniture does not have knots

The best teak furniture uses mortise and tenon joinery with dowel inserts (a mortise is a squared hole and a tenon is a squared finger that fits into the mortise).

Look for teak that has been kiln-dried to just 12% - 16% moisture.

Look for furniture that has a smooth, silky sanded finish.
