You are bidding on a brand new 1gm tube ShinEtsu Microsi X23-7762 thermal paste.
If you are looking at this auction you will probably already know about ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste and that it has achieved almost legendary status for it's thermal abilities. Until now it has been almost impossible to obtain in the UK and even then you may not get exactly what you want, as there are some variants of this paste that are not as good (too thick or difficult/messy to work with) or too expensive when you include postage.
I have used ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste for well over three years on all my Intel CPU's and I love the stuff. It is easy to apply, removal is clean and quick and it spreads evenly, without the need for time-consuming specialist applicators or specialist spreading techniques. Perfect for a busy workshop testing many CPU's. I do not make outrageous claims about how ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste will lower your CPU temperature by xx degrees compared with other brands. A properly-measured, applied and reasonably specified thermal paste will make far less difference than getting the right heatsink solution for your CPU!!! Where ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste gets it's nose in front, for me, is that it's at least as good as the best and is easier to apply and remove than ANY of the 6 other "world leading" compounds that I have tried. Not one of them is better than ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste in all three important areas of use ... heat conduction, application AND removal.

How much should you use? See photo below for a typical installation on a Socket 478 CPU (not included in this auction!).
Application:- dispense one small blob about the size of a grain of rice onto the (clean!) CPU surface ... that's all you need to do! Fit the heatsink and let the ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste do the rest. It's worth stating that you should fit the heatsink fairly soon after dispensing the ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste in order to avoid as much as possible any contamination from dust/pollen etc.
Removal:- take a dry lint-free cloth and wipe the CPU and the base of the heatsink. Most of the paste will simply lift off. Finish off by using a CLEAN lint-free cloth soaked with a LITTLE isopropyl alcohol and you are done! No residue, no drips and no mess.
Another HUGE benefit of ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste is that it will not "glue" the heatsink to the CPU. (Some thermal compounds including the standard Intel etc heat pad make life very difficult. I have tried one "liquid metal" compound and when I tried to remove the heatsink the CPU came out clean of the socket with it! Luckily I hadn't damaged the CPU or the motherboard but ... it took a LONG time to split the CPU from the heatsink and AGES to clean the compound off the CPU.) Removing the heatsink using ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste is extremely safe, quick and simple.
Here are a few words on how ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste works. First, it's a firm-but-viscous paste, so won't drip or splatter when applied. The paste is then AUTOMATICALLY spread out evenly by the action of the heatsink clips/fasteners. You DON'T need to spread it manually, in fact, if you try you will get more on your finger/applicator than is left on the CPU - so just use it straight out of the dispenser. Once the heatsink/fan is fitted you can use the PC straight away - no need to wait for it to cure or spread. Over the next few heat cycles (PC off - then on) the ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste will actually become MORE efficient. That's because of it's unique physical properties. Each time the paste is heated it re-forms into all the tiny pits and valleys. Traditionally it has been the case that you are advised to let the CPU attain just over 48C for this to happen but I think ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste has developed over time so that this re-profiling temperature is not as critical. (The technical term for this behaviour is "phase change" - where the surface of the paste that is in contact with the CPU/heatsink becomes almost fluid.
Some words of caution:- don't apply the wrong amount for your specific CPU/heatsink combination! Too little means that the heatsink won't get enough thermal contact with the CPU. Too much and the paste will spread out over the edge of the CPU and that is just a waste of paste (haha!). So how do you measure EXACTLY the right amount of ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste? Experience helps so I've shown a close approximation of the right amount in the photo. This may look like too small an amount but believe me, applying much more that this is a waste. You can experiment for yourself (without risk - just don't turn you PC on!) until you get the amount correct. There is easily enough ShinEtsu Microsi thermal paste in the applicator for 6 to 8 heatsink installs.
Final note:- always replace the cap on the applicator in order to prevent dirt/dust/pollen contamination of the fresh paste that remains inside the applicator. Then store the tube in an airtight container so that the natural ageing process is minimised.
