Tapered shape allows you to stow the tripod with the head attached.
The Narrow end (diameter of 13cm / 5 inches) accommodates the tripod legs whilst
The extra space at the top of the bag (15cm / 5.8 inches) allows for the head to be left attached to the leg set.
This extra space at the top allows the tripod to be inserted easily into the bag with most heads this allows the handles to be left intact.
The zip extends the full length of the bag, but also extends fully around the top opening of the bag, no more fighting to get the tripod into a side zip bag.
The padding holds the tripod in place and protects in transport, the stiffer top section of the bag adds more rigid protection for the head.

What type of photography do you do? It is possible that you will require more than one head to give you the optimum performance.
How tall are you? Really important this one. To short and your back will ache. As a guide you need to allow for the correct height without the use of the center column.
Purchase a tripod that is future proof! It is better to have more specification than have to replace your tripod as your demands increase.
As a rule of thumb the heavier the tripod the more stable it is!
