- PLEASE, read the listing completely! An “unhappy buyer” is almost always a result of the buyer not fully reading the listing and making “untrue” assumptions about the item listed. Esrun offers complete and detailed listings in an effort to avoid unhappy buyers due to misunderstandings, or a buyer who “expects much more than what the listing offers.” Often, if the buyer has not "read" the listing completely, expectations are greatly “inflated” and can then create disappointments with receipt of the item.
- Remember you are buying on Ebay, not from a retail store. Most Esrun items are “new”, but they can be “older models” and may have been stored in a warehouse for a significant amount of time. Most of my items are received in "lot", sometimes dusty and usually unpackaged. I will clean, sanitize and package my items to make them as attractive and secured for shipping as possible. This is "not an attempt to "fool, or trick" any potential buyer. This is simply marketing of the item. With older models, this is why you are able to receive an MSRP valued item of $400-$1200 for $80-$600 dollars?
- Manufacturer’s Warranty is not usually available from a manufacturer such as hp. for an older model item. Most manufacturer's will not honor factory warranties with "auction" items. This is why I offer the option of a Square Trade Warranty for items listed; “new” up to three years of warranty protection.
- Are you bidding on an item from a “trusted seller”?
- A “starting bid price” is not necessarily a reflection of “value,” or what you will pay on a final bid. It is not a reflection of what you will actually receive. A “low start bid” is not always a value and in fact can often indicate the item is “junk.”' You may get a “smokin’ deal”, but will it work when you receive it and will it be operational by having all the “basic parts.” How much is that hassle worth to you?
- Does the sellers feedback reflect a seller who will stand behind their items in a reasonable manner?
- A low “start bid” does not often reflect “quality.” Many times, a higher starting bid reflects knowing that you will receive an item truly as it is described. Esrun start bids are usually “cost” from a supplier including any parts to make the item a complete, operating unit. Some starting bids are actually lower than “cost” in order to make the item attractive to multiple bidders.
- Be very cautious when you see “sold as is,” or “all sales final” as this can often mean the item is “junk”, or non-working.
Serial Numbers: Scanner base/body holds a designated HP serial number plate. Automatic Document Feeder also has a individual HP serial number label. Where applicable/available these serial numbers are photo archived in the event "any problem" should arise with this item, or ANY question regarding a refund issue related to a complaint of "not as described", or "item received not working." Serial numbers are denoted on the "shipping box label", your shipping notification and the listing copy you receive. Photo serial number documentation is maintained with the "listing archive photos" for a period of three months. DOA warranty is ONLY honored after serial number verification of the unit sent and delivered to you. Returned units with missing ADF-Scanner parts, or mismatched-noncorresponding-"missing serial number labels" WILL VOID "ANY" TYPE OF WARRANTY, EXCHANGE, OR REFUND.

**This model does not have the "full feature" Vista Drivers. HP states the Scanjet 5550 unit will work using Vista with the HP scanner "Basic Feature driver" which utilizes the TWAIN functions. The Basic Feature Drivers for Vista are available for download from hp.com. The "full features" of this scanner buttons may not work using the Twain operation. I do not have Vista for testing and therefore unable to gurantee for Vista use.The unit may also include the HP Generic paper tray which is a slighly different color or gray, but is aesthetically congruent to the unit.

Scanner is "backed by the HP name"and NO missing parts. Includes 5550c scanner, 30pp ADF, HS USB cable, power unit, copy of the Installation CD. Software included on Install CD (HP Photo Imaging with Optical Character Recognition). Also included is ScanSoft, PaperPort Deluxe!!
Scanner was floor stock, or display from major retailer; purchased thru "out-stock." They are new scanners, but an older model. This is the 5550cxi High Resolution, photo quality, 2400x2400 ScanJet by HP. The 5550c-5550cxi-5590c are built as a professional, heavy duty, high quality (2400x2400 resolution) scanners ("cxi" version includes the c9911a XPA, "c" version does not). The XPA attaches to the back of the scanner and allows for the scanning of slides and negatives which are digitalized in to editable photos. Once digitalized, they can be edited for printing, sharing, or archiving. Both 5550 and 5590 models are almost exact miniaturizations of the 8250 and 8290 (without a legal sized scanning bed). However, the 5550 will scan and format legal documents using the ADF. This scanner was built for photo copying and document scanning. The ADF on this model is NOT intended to be a Photo Feeder. That would be the 5500 model, but even the 5500 still requires on-site operation as will feed, scan and save to file only one photo and then you must push the scan button to feed the next in stack. Scanning photos using the ADF of this 5550 may result in lines in the scanned photo due to the scanner attempting to color correct and sharpen the photo as it would a document being fed thru the ADF function. This can be caused by either satin finish, glossy finish, or poor quality of the photo itself and is not a malfunction, or flaw in the scanner. To scan photos you simply place 4-6 photos on the bed, highlight the photo to scan using the curser to outline, scan the photo and save to file. Then simply move on to the next photo; the quality is then excellent. There is really NO scanner which will scan a stack of photos "automatically," or "unattended." and save each independently. Each scan, no matter which scanner used requires a "save to" operation. The software necessary to completly "scan a stack of photos" one at a time and independently does not exist because of the need to save each scanned photo to file. The installation software includes Optical Character Recognition for trouble free editing by scanning text documents in to a word program such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, Corel Word Perfect. Once scanned in to the word program the scanned text is converted for editing in that program. No more tedious hours of editing, just scan and edit any changes without recopying the entire document. Also included as a bonus is ScanSoft, "PaperPort Deluxe for Scanjet 5550." An $80 value alone is a great document/file management and storage program enabling a "paperless" office. You can "easy file-easy access" for complete file management. Twain compatable and allows from scanning in to almost any program as well as importing photos, articles, documents, art. Twain also allows for endless rescanning and fine tuning of what is being scanned. Built for quality and durability to give years of service. Being new, this is an investment for "years." Again, it was designed also for photo quality scanning (2400x2400dpi) and produces "excellent" photo quality scans. The ADF on this model is not intended as a "photo feeder" as scanning photos thru the ADF will distort the color of the photo due to the finish used on photos. Scanner is new; most likely a display model. Hp label still on cover and upc code labels often still on top and paper tray; photo used for list is stock photo, but all units packed similarly and in similar condition. Several of the units may have minor marks on the bottom of the scanner which is simply due to shipping and in no way affect the function, or overall appearance of the unit. Upon receipt they are cleaned and sanitized as well as packaged to provide for the safest shipping possible to prevent damage from occuring. They are regrouped to insure "no missing parts." The feedback on this "lot" of 30 has been all positive except for one particular buyer.
IMAGE QUALITY: The function of a scanner is partially dependent on reflection to a mirror within the scanner hardware. During shipping with bumping the box the mirror can become "misaligned." Should this occur, you will scan and see a distorted image of "color lines" often described as a "bluish rainbow" on the scanning preview, or scanned image. This is easily corrected by tipping the scanner forward to a 90 degree angle and firmly tapping on the back, now the topside of the scanner several times. This will realign the mirror and the color distortion will be eliminated. This "troubleshooting tip" had been available on hp.com until the web site was updated recently and now many of the "troubleshooting tips" on older models have been eliminated within the "support and troubleshooting" section of hp.com. This can occur with the Scanjets 4500, 5550 and 7400 series models (re: Scanjet 7400 you would tip the scanner to the left side as facing you. With the 7400 you can actually tap the scanner while scanning and see the colored lines shift to the left until they disappear while the preview scan is being created.). These colored lines are in no way an indication that the scanner is broken, but simply an adjustment, or maintainence issue with the scanner.

This is NOT a "refurbished lemon" others sell as "new," or simply an incomplete unit with many missing parts. The 5550c is a miniaturization of the 8200 series having a scanning bed of 8 1/2 by 11. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS: Seller is NOT responsible for "shipping times." USPS states that "Priority Mail and International Express" delivered in 5-8 days; this is NOT guranteed. Recently a ship to Italy took 21 days including the time in Customs. Also, many countries "contract" for postal delivery services and there is no delivery time gurantee with these "consignee's" of the local postal authority.
SHIPPING DAMAGE WITH INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENTS: It is the buyer's responsibility to "report shipping damage and make claims for damages with their local post office officials. Changes to International Postal Regulations now include that, "shipping claims must be paid to the receiver." Replacement for damage loss will only be made upon "ANOTHER" payment for the replacement as the "origional damage claim is paid to you, the receiver." Recently, a scanner sold and shipped to a buyer in Australia was damaged. I immediately shipped a replacement when the buyer reported to me "a damage claim number." I filed an "Electronic Damage Claim" thru the USPS web site with all the required details. Unfortunately, the buyer either never actually turned in the damaged scanner and gave me a "bogus" damage number, or he received the insurance payment and never notified me. I was not aware that the claim WILL ONLY PAID TO THE RECEIVER until I received a response to my "Official Inquiry." All I can find out is "Case Closed" and I received a "form" letter. My own damage claim has been rejected by the International Postal Authority because "no rifling or damage has been found" which was stated in the "form letter" and actually means there was no damaged item to inspect. It appears the buyer never did actually turn in the scanner and report the damage as he told me. Now, the buyer will not respond to my requests for a copy of the "receipt" he would have received from his post office with that damage claim number he gave me. I have not only lost the cost of the scanner, but the costs for replacement sent and the second shipping charges to Australia. Of course, HE GAVE ME WONDERFUL FEEDBACK!!! If you notify me, "my shipment is damaged" I will respond, "The shipment was insured for the full cost. It will be necessary for YOU to file a damage report and claim with your post office as YOU WILL BE THE PERSON THE CLAIM IS PAID TO. Remember to obtain a receipt for the damaged item from your Post Office should they ever claim the item was not turned in to them. I will gladly assist you will filing a claim on this end, but YOU must ensure that YOU receive payment for the damaged item."

REFUNDS/EXCHANGES will only be considered within seven days of receipt. Refund will be given as exchange and if exchange is not an option the purchase price will be refunded via PayPal.
