This exotic batik is entitled "Pokhara Lake," and depicts farmland around a lake of Nepal. Traditional housing and herd animals, as well as an ingenious reflecting lake, define tranquility. Of course, the Himalayas rise majestically in the background. The colors are rich and the forms, though clear, have that wonderful softness of a true batik creation. This is a warm, inviting artwork. Please see our complete store listings as well; we have several other batik paintings equally as lovely!
Batik is a very time-consuming process which involves brushing molten wax onto a handwoven cloth which is then dipped or painted with dye. The waxed areas resist the dye. The wax is removed and the process repeated over and over for each color until just the right effect is achieved by the creator. This results in exceptional art suitable for framing. This piece is created by artists of the Nepal Leprosy Trust which works to improve the life of those affected by leprosy and other marginalized people. They provide jobs, treatment, housing, and education for many in that mountainous country. This is also a Fair Trade product, which means it is guaranteed to compensate the creator fairly.
Please note that because of the handmade nature of this piece, variations may occur. This adds to the personality and uniqueness of the artifact! Pictures are only representative; measurements are approximate.
