From the Sublime to the.... .....for ever & ever right? Picture No. 1 The Shabaka Stone a post Ramesses relic from the 25th Dynasty of Egypt. A black basalt slab 137cm x 66cm x 25cm : weight 5 cwt : it is incised with the remaining hieroglyphs of a worm-ridden, decaying papyrus. This papyrus was found as pharaoh Shabaka 716 - 698 BC was inspecting the temple of Ptah in Memphis, Egypt. The Pharaoh Shabaka, concerned about the loss of the information on the papyrus, had the rest of the text written into this stone. A part of the inscription tells of the stones importance and how it will remain on its chosen site forever as a symbol of Pharoah Shabaka's importance. In later years, the stone was used by people from another civilisation who occupied the land, as a millstone. The Shabaka Stone is also noteworthy in that it places Ptah as the center of existence and as the creator god. Picture No. 2 The Belgium bank note became a secret form for message communications in the English Art Schools of the 1960-90's. |
