| This beautiful STERLING
SCT-300PP purple cornet is the perfect choice for a
student, or for any trumpet player wanting to try something
different. This trumpet is brand new and has never been played.
Like trumpets, cornets play in the key of Bb.
However this type of instrument has a slightly different timbre
(tone) to the trumpet. The cornet evolved from the French
post horn by adding two, then three valves.
The cornet is perfect for the younger player as
the centre of gravity is closer to the person and so makes
it easier to hold. Unlike the trumpet, the cornet has a conical
bore (trumpets have cylindrical) which means the tubing starts
narrow at the mouthpiece and gets wider towards the bell. It
is this bore that makes the cornet more agile when playing
fast passages and gives the instrument a warmer, more mellow
tone.
