This autofocus telephoto zoom lens with macro close focusing is the perfect match for all Minolta AF 35mm, Konica Minolta and Sony digital SLR cameras. It's new and boxed with lens hood, front and rear caps and instructions.

The zoom range covers all popular focal lengths from 70mm and 85mm portrait, 105mm and 135mm medium telephoto to 200mm and 210mm telephoto, plus of course everything in between. This makes the lens ideal for great pictures of sports, portraits, children, wildlife, travelling and many other subjects.

On Konica Minolta and Sony digital SLRs (see below) the effective focal length range is equivalent to approximately 105-315mm, giving extra magnification for even longer range. The Anti-Shake (AS) and Super SteadyShot (SSS) technology in these cameras works to reduce the chance of camera shake at slow shutter speeds. The push-pull zoom ring is large with a ribbed rubber grip for smooth, easy handling.

This AF lens focuses automatically or manually down to a closest setting of less than 1.5m (5 feet) at all focal lengths, for a macro reproduction ratio of 1:5 at 210mm. This fills the frame with a subject as small as 120x180mm (5x7.5 inches) on film, and even smaller on digital. The manual focus ring has a wide, rubber-covered surface making its use fast and positive (if slightly noisy - see below), and distances are clearly marked in feet and meters, with infrared indexes.

Auto diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with all normal exposure and metering modes (see below), except ADI modes which require D lenses. The maximum aperture is f/4.5-5.6, and the lens stops down to f/22-27 for maximum depth of field. As with all Minolta AF lenses, aperture settings are controlled from the camera body.

Multicoated (MC) glass to reduce flare against the light, and increase contrast and colour fidelity. Standard 55mm filter thread plus external bayonet mount for the special lens hood (supplied), which reduces the chance of flare even further, and reverses over the front of the lens for storage. Cosina is a long established manufacturer of lenses under its own name as well as many others including Carl Zeiss, and this lens is nicely made (in Japan) with a metal lens mount. It's compact and lightweight at around 105mm (4.25 inches) long on the camera at its smallest settings, and weighs just 430g.

All normal exposure modes work OK (including program), and all metering modes are suitable including multi-pattern and spot. Some ADI modes on newer bodies and flashguns require distance information from the lens, and these modes work only with Minolta D lenses. This doesn't cause a problem in practice as the camera switches to an alternative mode (such as pre-flash TTL) as required.

Minolta AF-fit lenses and accessories are NOT suitable for the Minolta manual focus models requiring MC and MD lenses, the APS-format Vectis cameras or the digital RD-3000 (though an adapter was available), or Dimage digital cameras.

Some independent lenses don't work properly on the latest AF cameras, but we've checked this one on a recent Minolta Dynax 5 (Maxxum 5) and a Konica Minolta Dynax 7D (Maxxum 7D) digital, and it works fine. Please contact us if you have any questions about compatibility with your equipment.
