Life outside Mum's body can be very unnerving and upsetting for your baby. There are too many new sounds which can overload your little one's senses creating a cranky and stressed out baby.
Your baby was surrounded by constant comforting white noise before he or she was born. Mom's heart beat and the sound of the blood pulsing through the placenta were the sounds your baby was used to before birth and these CD's help to recreate that comforting familiar environment your baby was used to and now misses so much.
This unique 3 CD set has been compiled to provide those soothing background noises. They can help baby get off to sleep and then protect them from being woken. This method has been endorsed by midwives and doctors and is used by the National Childbirth Trust in many hospitals across the UK.
CD 1 - Heartbeat
The heartbeat CD is a 70 minute long studio mix of pink noise and an "at rest" heartbeat. Pink noise is similar to white noise but optimized for human hearing. A human heartbeat of approximately 65 beats per minute (sleep rate) has been added to create a soothing sound similar to what baby heard in the womb when mum was asleep.
CD 2 - Raindrops
A 75 minute studio mix of low-level pink noise mixed with rain-drops. The sound is similar to rain hitting a roof. It can be used to mask other noises such as doors closing, creaking floor-boards, traffic, conversations etc. It always seems odd to mask unwanted sound by playing sound but it works.
CD 3 - Hoover
A 75 minute CD containing the sound of a hoover being pushed around. In a recent survey the sound of a hoover was found to be the most successful of all household items in sending a baby to sleep. It also makes baby believe mum is never far away.
You can put your cd player in repeat mode and play these cd's for longer periods if required.
"Sounds that involve all the frequencies audible to the human ear and are continuous and monotonous are very effective in settling the restless baby and keeping her asleep.... The lower, more monotonous, and rhythmical the tone, the more soothing.... Sound ridiculous? Not really. If you have ever had a fussy baby, you will try anything that works."
