Teleplus is one of the top converter brands (made by Kenko), and this model fits between the camera and lens, doubles the effective focal length, and offers macro close focusing. It's new and boxed, and suitable for Minolta manual focus SLR cameras and lenses (see below), but not AF or digital models. It has seven elements for optimum quality and multicoated (MC) glass to reduce flare and light loss, and increase contrast and colour fidelity.

Macro feature for really impressive close focusing up to life size. This fills the frame with a subject as small as 24x36mm (1x1.5 inches), and is ideal for photographing many small objects such as coins, stamps, insects, etc. Magnification is variable, and turning the macro ring on the converter changes the close focus setting from 1:20 all the way to 1:1 (life size). These figures apply to a 50mm standard lens - magnification varies with the lens used. With a wide angle lens you'll get closer focusing and higher magnification. Telephoto lenses will give less magnification, but more comfortable working distances.

The converter couples to the camera's auto diaphragm and full aperture metering systems, and will work in all exposure modes (see below). TTL metering systems (including TTL flash) will handle the exposure compensation required for close ups automatically.

Also works as a normal 2x teleconverter. It can be used with just about any lens (except some very wide/old types, where the rear elements protrude too far), but work best with telephoto lenses, so a 135mm becomes a 270mm, and a reasonably priced 200mm becomes a 400mm. A 70-210mm zoom becomes a 140-420mm, which would usually be very expensive!

This 2x MX Macro Teleplus MC7 converter is very nicely made (in Japan) with a solid, metal barrel and lens mounts, rubber grip on the close focus ring, clear markings and a high standard of fit and finish. The converter adds only around 45mm (1.75 inches) to the length of the lens attached, and weighs a solid 265g.
