Item specifics - String Instruments
Instrument: Bouzouki/ MandolaSub-Type: Acoustic
Size: --Condition: Used

I am selling this old Musikalia Bouzouki/Mandola which I bought in Dublin in the 1980s. The original length of the neck made it very difficult to play and to tune and so I had it modified professionally by a guitar-maker. The moveable bridge makes tuning easier and it means that you can be flexible with the strength of strings you buy. I personally use Martin guitar strings, light and I remove the nut at the end of the string so I can use the loop. This bouzouki has a nice tone and I have used it professionally and for recording. In fact it was better in the studio than another very well known make. I always used a DeByl sound system so no holes need to be made in the body work. The measurements are: length-91cm/36 inches/width at widest point-33cm/13inches/depth-9cm/3.5inches. There are a few little wear marks and I have tried to show these as best as possible on the photos. Please contact me with any questions. The instrument comes without case and the stand in the photographs. I am selling this instrument because I don't play it any more as I have a Fylde mandola. It is ideal for the novice and I hope someone else will have as much fun playing it as I had! I am happy to send to Europe but please contact me about postage costs. Please make sure you have all the information you need before bidding as I will not accept returns. Happy Bidding.

Q: Hi Whats the difference between a Mandola and bouzouki and is it the same type/size of instrument that, say Donal Lunny would use? regards danny
A: Originally, when the flat back instrument was developed based on the Greek bouzouki, they were called Irish bouzoukis. I can only really speak for my experience, but I now call the longer-necked instrument an Irish bouzouki... Continue reading

A: Sorry for taking a little while to reply to your question. THis is the first time I've sent any instrument abroad. I think it will cost £30. The instrument would be send with insurance in case anything happens in transit.... Continue reading

A: The neck was shortened by splicing the wood. Maybe I can try and post a photograph of the exact area. It is barely noticeable. The recording is on 'Passion Play' by Touchwood, Track 'Bliss'. I will just check... Continue reading
