THE REAL BIG BLASTS FROM THE PAST: THE MIGHTY WURLITZER THEATRE PIPE ORGAN AND THE ELECTRIC ORGAN 3 CD Box Set Forget that litsy bitsy icon of the Rock ‘n’ Roll era, the Wurlitzer juke box. Consider the Biggest Daddy of them all: The Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ, the most famous instruments Wurlitzer ever built. They were installed in theatres, dance halls, churches and other public places where they made a formidable impact. Originally designed by Robert Hope- Jones as a “One Man Orchestra” to accompany silent movies, this marvel was possessed of such wide tonal virtuosity, such throbbing power and such range that once heard, it could never be ignored. It gave venues fame: The Elephant and Castle Trocadero, The Tooting Granada Cinema, the Paramount Odeons in Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle, The London Empire and the Blackpool Tower Ballroom, to mention but a few. Aficionados rate their sound as “uniquely awesome”. Another brutal blast from the past was the Wurlitzer Electric Organ. Same impact with slightly softer power levels. Eardrum damage still probable at close range. Perfection.
