1987 Moto Guzzi Le Mans IV 1000
E reg Guzzi Le Mans in nice condition. I bought this bike last year which had been standing for a while after being reconditioned. The only things it needed at that time were the brakes sorting, so I fitted a new rear master cylinder, front brake switch, and an Odyssey battery and it starts and runs very nicely. I also fitted head guards for protection, though these obviously have not been used. It sailed through the MoT and I've been out for about 3 rides on it since!
It's been resprayed and looks very smart - decals are non-original but suit the bike very well. The Lafranconi black chrome exhausts are in good condition and it sounds nice without being obnoxiously loud.
Being a classic Guzzi (now it's 20 years old it qualifies for classic insurance from Carole Nash and others) it has Dellorto PHM40 carbs which are renowned for heavy return springs - this one is no exception and after a long day's riding I can certainly feel it in my right hand. Then again if you're interested in the bike you're probably familiar with this! The bike is fitted with the 16" front wheel which some people say makes it handle poorly - I have been happy with it but if you want to upgrade to an 18" as found on the Le Mans V I have a spare 18" front which I will include with the bike for £30.
Bad bits - the seat has some pinpricking on the surface - I suspect a cat has used it for a bed and stuck its claws into it but it isn't obvious unless looking closely. When the bike was resprayed and reassembled the tailpiece was mounted a bit far back so there's a bit of a gap to the side panel but it could easily be adjusted to fit better, I just haven't bothered. Mechanically the only problem I have had is one instance where after a long time in heavy traffic it cut out and I had to wait a few minutes for it to cool down and then it restarted and rode 60 miles home happily - I am pretty sure this is a coil playing up a bit.
Reasons for selling - I have too many bikes and a business that doesn't give me enough time to do them justice.
