A Model B5 Side Chair, designed by the Bauhaus designer Marcel Breuer in 1926
One of the earliest designs employing tubular steel,
the iconic B5 chair is a landmark in Twentieth Century furniture design. Breuer
achieved a stunning visual effect by extending a single continuous line of tubular
steel that flows from the front legs down along the sled runners, up the back
and eventually returning around and behind the rear legs. The arrangement of
the seat anticipated his later cantilevered designs; models that remain ubiquitous
today.
The chair was originally produced by Standard Mobel,
Berlin in 1926 and was only in production for a few years. This is a recent example presumably manufactured by Tecta, although please note that it is unsigned. Originals – on the extremely
rare occasions that they appear at one of the major auction houses - fetch several thousand pounds and even re-issues are uncommon and very rarely seen. Don’t miss this
opportunity.
Materials/Dimensions:
Chrome-plated
tubular steel with tan leather seat.
Approximate total height 87 cm.
Oversees customers please note that this will be an expensive item to ship internationally. The shipping prices are shown below are calculated at cost using the Royal Mail's Online Price Finder at http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinder. Condition:
The condition is truly excellent. Although used, the
chair displays virtually as new, except for some minor scuffing to the leather
on the side of the seat. There are no open seams, marks or tears in the leather.
The chrome is stunning; literally as new.

Payment and PostagePaypal
is accepted and I do not add a surcharge to cover their fees. UK buyers
only may also pay by cheque or postal order. If it's a cheque, please
allow 7 to 10 days for it to clear. In exceptional circumstances it may
be possible for overseas customers to pay by another means such as bank transfer by prior arrangement.
All buyers please make contact within 3 days of auction. Payment is required within 7 days.
I regret that it has become necessary to only offer fully tracked forms of postage for high value items. This is because
of the increasing number of instances of attempted fraud and I'm acting
on unequivocal advice that I have received from Paypal/eBay. Please be
assured that the postage options shown are calculated at cost, with a
minimal handling fee to cover packaging materials. I pack to a professional standard; please see my feedback page for customer testimonies. If you have any questions about any of this please contact me.
Non-paymentAll non-paying bidders are, without exception, reported to eBay. This is not for the sake of being vindictive, but because eBay charges retrospective fees calculated on the actual sale price of items and this money needs to be retrieved. Believe me it is becoming increasingly difficult to make ends meet on here as it is! Thank you for your understanding. Please refer to eBay's policy on non-payment for more information, including its ramifications for the bidder. If you have any doubts, please do ask before bidding.Condition of itemsPlease note that, unless clearly stated otherwise, my listings are for vintage/antique objects and therefore, by definition, are not going to be in the same condition you would expect from a brand new item. Please be assured that I always endeavour to offer the most accurate description possible of the item's condition and take multiple illustrative photographs. Vintage electrical itemsVintage electrical items are always sold in 'as found' condition, without electrical guarantee and must always be safety-checked by a qualified electrician (in the country of intended use) before use. ReturnsReturns may be made, if reported within 7 days and by prior arrangement only, if a mistake has been made in the listing and the item is not as described, but for no other reason. Unfortunately simple buyer's remorse cannot qualify and the cost of return shipping is not included in any refund. Please ask any questions before submitting an offer. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions not covered above; I always answer as quickly as possible. Thanks very much for taking the time to read this and best of luck with your bidding!wolfgang Tumpel Modernism modernist Modern Movement Functionalism functionalist Buquet wilhelm Wagenfeld christian dell walter gropius thonet tubular steel chair wells coates stahlrohrmobel Stahl
