This is the perfect class for anyone who
knows nothing about building Web pages, or has used FrontPage to build or
edit some simple Web sites, but needs to learn how to build a Web site
properly. We will take you from knowing nothing to building a full
fledged company Web site from scratch (without the wizards) in a about an
hour and a half. Yes, this course runs a little longer than our usual hour. It
was tough to cut anything out of this one!
We'll start off by talking about what
FrontPage is, what it does, and why you should use it. We'll give you a good
foundation of terms and definitions. We'll talk about the Web,
networks, HTML, hyperlinks, URLs, domain names, and so on.
Next, we'll spend some time discussing Web
site planning. I'll share with you my seven steps for creating a good
web site. We then show you how to start Microsoft FrontPage, and go over
the different parts of the screen: the title bar, the tool bars, the menu bar,
the page area, the views bar, and so on.

We'll next begin by creating a new Web.
We'll build an actual Web site for a fictional company. Sure, it's
pretty basic, but keep in mind that we built it in about an hour of class.
Imagine what you'll be able to do after a couple of classes.

We'll build a home page. We'll create our own
navigation bar with hyperlinks. I personally hate FrontPage's built-in
navigation bars, so we'll create our own from scratch. I'll show you how to
format your pages to make them look professional - using colors, fonts,
horizontal lines, and so on.

Next, we'll show you how to create a
template page that you can save and reuse for creating other, new pages.
We'll show you how to work with multiple pages in your web. We'll learn
how to rename pages. We'll edit our new pages to make them fit into our
Web.
Lesson seven is all about hyperlinks.
We'll show you how to create mail links, web page links to other
sites, and links to other pages within your own site. We'll make our
navigation bar come to life with hyperlinks. We'll also show you how to make
custom external hyperlinks.
The next lesson covers adding graphics
to your Web. We'll start off simple by inserting some clipart that comes
with FrontPage. We'll show you the pictures toolbar. We'll teach you how
to position clipart images absolutely on the page, so they don't push the
text out of the way. We'll teach you how to take your own graphics and
images and insert them into your Web.

We'll show you how to save graphics in your
Web. We'll talk about the images folder, and how to move files into them.
We'll also teach you how you can "borrow" images from other Web sites to
include in your own. Finally, we'll show you how to perform a screen capture
to grab any image on your screen to drop into your pages.
Lesson nine will teach you how to publish
your Web from your local computer up to the Internet. We'll talk about
registering your domain name, setting up Web hosting service, and
what you need to do to get started. We'll discuss FrontPage Server Extensions.
We'll go over our published Web site, and show you how to publish only changed
pages.

Finally, we'll talk about Web site design
considerations. We'll bestow upon you many ideas, tips, and tricks from our
years in the Web design business. This lesson alone is worth the cost of the
course!
