Mi-24 "HIND" RUSSIAN HELICOPTER

 This Mi-24D was rescued from deep in the Czech Republic and transported back to our workshops in the UK, where it has been reassembled…The aircraft has no logs with it and is not flyable.

 The Mi-24 helicopter (NATO designation HIND), is a Russian Air Force assault and troop transportation helicopter, developed on the Mi-8's propulsion system, also incorporating systems from the Mi-17.

 The Mi-24 is a close counterpart to the American AH-64 Apache, but unlike this and other Western assault helicopters it is also capable of transporting up to eight troops. The Russians have deployed significant numbers of  Mi-24s in Europe and have exported them to many third world countries.

 The five-blade main rotor is mounted on top of the fuselage midsection. Two turboshaft engines are mounted above the body midsection with two round air intakes located just above the cockpit and exhaust ports on the sides of the engines.

 The swept-back tapered tail fin features a rotor on the right, with tapered flats on a boom just forward of the fin.

 Considerable attention was given to making the Mi-24 fast. The airframe was streamlined and fitted with retractable tricycle undercarriage landing gear to reduce drag. The wings provide considerable lift at high speed, up to a quarter of total lift. The main rotor was tilted 2.5° to the right from the fuselage to counteract dissymmetry effect and to provide a more stable platform at high speed. The landing gear is tilted to the left so the rotor remains level when the aircraft is on the ground.  

The Hind-series is a popular alternative in many countries where a full-fledged air force is not affordable or needed.

 This is the only HIND currently in private hands inside the UK and represents a truly unique opportunity to own a piece of Cold War history.
