1. Introduction

The Sprinter range will adopt a new engine series in 2009, in preparation for the introduction of Euro 5 emission legislation for commercial vehicles registered from 1 October 2009 onwards.

This bulletin summarises the features and benefits, range structure and the introduction dates.

The Euro 5 Sprinter represents excellent value for money with the optimised model range offering competitive pricing against the outgoing Euro 4 range. One of the key features is the supersession of the 109 hp engines by the 129 hp version offering improved economy and performance with a List Price increase of only £500.

The 163 hp and V6 CDI 190 hp engines are now available at a lower price than the outgoing Euro 4 equivalents, making these powerful yet economic engines even more accessible to prospective customers.

2. Features and benefits of the Euro 5 Sprinter range

• Significant improvements in fuel economy for all vehicles with manual transmission – see Section 6 of this bulletin for further information.
• Introduction of next generation engine model for 4-cylinder versions – Mercedes-Benz OM651 Series
o Increased power and torque outputs
o Improvements in exhaust emissions
o Enhanced engine design to reduce noise and improve flexibility
• The existing Euro 4 109 hp engine will be superseded by the Euro 5 129 hp, which will offer increased performance and improved fuel economy.
• Enhanced performance for V6-cylinder engine version – Mercedes-Benz OM642 Series.
• Introduction of a new van-specific 6-speed manual transmission series – ECO Gear
o Designed specifically for van use to improve flexibility and maximise fuel economy by reducing engine speeds
o Optimised design to suppress noise and improve shift quality
o Increased gearing spread – 16% broader – to improve driving flexibility
o Overdrive on 5th and 6th gear (compared to only 6th gear previously)
o Higher torque capacity compared to previous models

Model variants

• From Euro 5 introduction (July 2009) the 2-Series Sprinter Chassis Crewcab @ 3t GVW will be discontinued from the UK model line up.
• From Euro 5 introduction (July 2009) the 4-Series Sprinter (Super-single tyre) will only be available in van variants.
• From Euro 5 introduction (July 2009) there will be 4 diesel engine variants offered (3 x 4-cylinder and 1 x V6-cylinder).

Any used vehicles will normally have a 12 month parts and labour, note that not all vehicles are elidgable for any warranty.
