Melvins - Gluey Porch Treatments (CD 2001) new

Forget your death metal, your black metal, your desk metal, forget your speed, thrash or nu-metal, forget grunge, sludge or anything else, if you like heavy music, this is it. With enough bone crunching, eye gouging, truly punishing riffs to pound your brain until it dribbles out your ears, this has got to be the heaviest album I've ever heard. Typical to all the Melvins albums, this has the lumbering pace of a lead iceberg and slightly more force. Their first full length album, re-released by Ipecac makes their other albums seem light by comparison. They haven't the speed of metal or grunge but an imposing atmosphere is created that is so intense, you can actually feel the pressure in the room building. Amazing. I challenge anyone to sit through this whole album and not feel drained by the end of it. You'll find it hard to listen to if you're not familiar with the Melvins, maybe Houdini would be a better first purchase but, good as Houdini is, this makes it sound like pop.
